★★★★★"...ingenious design keep the stage picture dynamic and dramatically focused. Dann Barber’s set evokes social dislocation through movable scaffolding; Ella Butler’s costuming creates an alt-’90s fever dream, with inventive fashion solutions for everything from street hawkers and panhandlers to a cow in an avant-garde nursery rhyme. Paul Jackson’s lighting roves from New York City’s squalor to its clandestine pleasures."

"Dann Barber’s inspired set design cleverly utilises levels, with cast members constantly rotating and adjusting the movable multilayered scaffolding and platforms – often while singing. Strings of Christmas lights occasionally illuminate to indicate the passing of time. Dark alley corners, seedy scenes and expressive faces are isolated and illuminated thanks to Paul Jackson’s precise lighting design."

★★★★☆ “The latest 2024 production is a success. Dann Barber’s set contains platforms contort and spin to bring the New York streets to life. Paul Jackson’s lighting design constantly breaks the fourth wall and invites the audience to become an engaged rock crowd. Ella Butler’s costumes capture the colours and layers of 90s fashion – which helpfully wouldn’t look out of place for any urban youth today. Luca Dinardo’s choreography is a joy to watch.”
